Omar Marmoush

 Omar Khaled Mohamed Marmoush (born 7 February 1999) is an Egyptian footballer who plays for Manchester City in the English Premier League and the Egypt national team as a winger.

Club Career

Wadi Degla

Omar Marmoush began his professional career with Wadi Degla in the Egyptian Premier League on 8 July 2016, coming on as a substitute in a match against Al Ittihad Alexandria, which his team won 3–2. He made a total of 16 league appearances for Wadi Degla, scoring two goals, before moving to VfL Wolfsburg II in 2017.


Wolfsburg

On 26 May 2020, Marmoush made his Bundesliga debut for VfL Wolfsburg in their 4–1 victory over Bayer Leverkusen at the BayArena. He signed his first professional contract with the club on 23 June. On 5 August 2020, he made his European debut in a 3–0 (5–1 on aggregate) defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk in the Europa League Round of 16. Marmoush returned to Wolfsburg after a successful Bundesliga season with Stuttgart, and was given the number 33 shirt.


FC St. Pauli (loan)

On 5 January 2021, Marmoush was loaned to FC St. Pauli until the end of the season. He made 21 appearances and scored 7 goals for the club.


VfB Stuttgart (loan)

On 30 August 2021, Marmoush joined VfB Stuttgart on loan until the end of the season. He scored a last-minute equalizer against Eintracht Frankfurt on his debut. He was named Bundesliga Rookie of the Month for September 2021. He finished his loan spell at Stuttgart with 3 goals in 21 appearances.


Return to Wolfsburg

On 30 July 2022, Marmoush scored his first goal for Wolfsburg in a DFB Cup first-round match against Carl Zeiss Jena. He scored his first Bundesliga goal for the club in a 3–2 win against his former team, VfB Stuttgart. He finished the season with 36 appearances, scoring 6 goals and providing 1 assist in all competitions.


Eintracht Frankfurt

On 15 May 2023, it was announced that Marmoush had joined Eintracht Frankfurt on a free transfer, wearing the number 7 shirt.


2023–24 season

On 13 August 2023, Marmoush scored his first goal for Frankfurt in a 7–0 win against Lokomotive Leipzig in the first round of the DFB Cup. On 27 August 2023, he scored his first Bundesliga goal for the club in a 1–1 draw against Mainz 05. He scored his first European goal from the penalty spot against Aberdeen in the Europa League.


Marmoush had an exceptional season, scoring 16 goals in 37 appearances, attracting the attention of Premier League clubs such as Arsenal, Liverpool, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur.


2024–25 Season

Marmoush contributed 6 goals and 3 assists in September, earning the Bundesliga Player of the Month award. He scored crucial goals against Borussia Mönchengladbach and Holstein Kiel, surpassing Harry Kane as the league's top scorer during that period.


In the Europa League, he scored decisive free-kick goals against BeÅŸiktaÅŸ, Slavia Prague, and Midtjylland. He finished the first half of the season as the second-highest scorer in the Bundesliga with 15 goals, setting a club record.


Omar Marmoush finished the first half of the 2024–25 Bundesliga season as the league's second-highest scorer after Harry Kane with 15 goals, setting a new club record for the first half of the season and surpassing the previous record held by Theofanis Gekas in the 2010–11 season.


Manchester City

On 23 January 2025, Manchester City, then a Premier League club, announced the signing of Omar Marmoush to a four-and-a-half-year contract for a fee of £59 million.


International Career

Omar Marmoush was called up to the Egyptian U-20 national team for the 2017 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations held in Zambia. He played two matches in the tournament, where Egypt were eliminated in the group stage.


Marmoush was also eligible to play for Canada before officially making his debut for Egypt in October 2021.


On October 8, 2021, Marmoush made his debut for the Egyptian national team, scoring the only goal in a 1–0 victory against Libya.


On December 29, 2021, Marmoush was named in Egypt's 28-man squad for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations. He played in all three group stage matches and all knockout stage matches, including the final against Senegal, which Egypt lost 4–2 on penalties.


On March 19, 2022, Marmoush was called up for Egypt's third-round 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Senegal. He played in both matches, which Egypt lost 3–1 on penalties, thus being eliminated from World Cup contention. On September 27, Marmoush scored the opening goal in a 3–0 friendly win against Liberia.


On 24 March 2023, Marmoush scored Egypt's second goal in a 2–0 victory over Malawi in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Four days later, he scored in the return leg, which Egypt won 4–0. During the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Marmoush scored the equalizer in a 2–2 draw against Ghana, helping Egypt qualify for the Round of 16.


Personal Life

In addition to his Egyptian nationality, Omar Marmoush also holds Canadian citizenship thanks to his Egyptian-Canadian parents, who lived in Canada for six years before returning to settle in Cairo, where Marmoush grew up and began playing football at the Wadi Degla Youth Academy.
