Farid Shawky

 Farid Shawky is an Egyptian actor, screenwriter, dialogue and producer. He was known by the nicknames "King of Tarso", "The Monster of the Screen", all titles assigned by the audience to the favorite star, Farid Shawqi.


He was born on July 30, 1920 in El-Baghala district of Sayeda Zeinab in Cairo, while he grew up in El-Helmeya El-Gedida district, where the family moved to. Diploma, joined the Higher Institute of Dramatic Art.

His career spanned over 50 years, in which Shawky starred, produced, and scripted more than 400 films - more than the films produced collectively by the entire Arab world - in addition to theater, television and cinema, his popularity spanned the entire Arab world, including Turkey is where he made some films there, and directors always refer to him as "Fred Bey" (Beck) even though he does not have the official title of Bey, but as a sign of respect. He has also worked with more than ninety directors and producers.

His first work was the movie Angel of Mercy in 1946 with Youssef Wehbe, Amina Rizk and directed by Youssef Wehbe, then he presented the movie Angels in Hell in 1947, directed by Hassan Al-Imam, then his works continued after that.


With the beginning of the fifties, he began to change his skin somewhat to present another form of the hero away from the image of evil that he continued to perform throughout the first period of his career in films such as My Heart, My Guide in 1947 directed by Anwar Wagdy, Playing with Fire in 1948 by Omar Jami, The Killer movie in 1948 directed by Hussein Sedky , Ghazal Al Banat in 1949, directed by Anwar Wagdy and other films in which he played small roles, all of which revolve within the framework of evil by raising the eyebrow and frown on the face.

After that, he changed his skin completely and became the hero who defends the good in the face of evildoers such as Mahmoud El-Meligy, Zaki Rostom and his films at this stage were distinguished, including the movie “They made me a criminal” in 1954 by director Atef Salem, the film that canceled the first precedent of events, and it was written by Farid Shawqi and Ramses Najib, Naguib Mahfouz, one of the later recipients of the Nobel Prize in Literature, participated in writing the script and dialogue.

He is also the author of the story. Among his works in this field are the film They made me a criminal co-authored with Ramses Naguib and directed by Atef Salem, Raseef Namira 5 1956 by Niazi Mustafa, The Fatwa in 1957 by director Salah Abu Seif, Kahraman in 1958 by director Sayed Badir, Weapon Market in 1960, Antar Ibn Shaddad in 1961 By Niazi Mustafa, I am the Runner in 1962, produced by Salah Zulficar, Hero for the End in 1963, directed by Hossam El Din Mostafa.

Farid Shawqi continued as a hero until he reached the stage of adulthood. He presented films in which he was the star, including Ragab El-Wahsh in 1985 by Kamal Salah El-Din, Saad El-Yateem in 1985 by Ashraf Fahmy, Ashmawi in 1987 by Alaa Mahjoub, and Heart of the Night 1989 by Atef El-Tayeb.

His last work was the fierce man 1996, Yassin Ismail Yassin. Farid Shawqi presented nearly 300 films, along with many theater and television works. He traveled to Turkey after the setback in 1967 and spent a period of time working as a hero and co-producer of some Turkish films. He married five times, the first to an amateur actress when he was eighteen years old and she was very jealous of him, the second to a lawyer who loved her very much and told her that if she did not marry him, he would commit suicide, then he married an unknown actress Zainab Abdel Hadi and had her son Mona, then the star Huda Sultan, whom he loved until his death Despite the separation, he had two children from her, Nahid, Maha, and finally Mrs. Suhair Turk, who remained with him until his death, and he gave birth to Abeer and Rania, which is why he was called the father of girls. One of his sons has worked in art, the artist Rania Farid Shawky and the film producer Nahed Farid Shawky.

He received more than 92 awards, most notably the Order of Arts handed to him by President Gamal Abdel Nasser.

Farid Shawky died on Monday 27 July 1998 at the age of 78.
