Amr Diab

 Amr Abdel Basset Abdel Aziz Diab (born October 11, 1961), known by his stage name Amr Diab, and his nickname Al Hadaba, is an Egyptian singer, composer, and actor. He is considered one of the most famous singers in the Arab world, where his albums have achieved huge sales, and many of his songs have been translated into several languages, the most important of which are: English, Russian, Croatian, Bulgarian, Turkish, Albanian, Hindi, Greek, and French. . Amr Diab was distinguished by introducing new instruments into his music, and creating different types of songs throughout his history.

 

Amr Diab won many awards during his artistic career, including the World Music Awards 7 times for the highest sales in the Middle East in the years: 1998, 2002, 2007, and 2014. His artistic age exceeds 37 years, since the release of his first album, Ya Tariq, in 1983, until the album Sahran in 2020. Amr Diab is the first Arab singer to enter the Guinness Book of Records, as the group recorded Amr Diab as the first Arab singer to receive the largest number of awards International music for the most sales in the Middle East. In 2019, Amr Diab achieved the first rank of the most listened Arab artist around the world, through the "Anghami" music application, where the number of listeners reached 147 million and 500 thousand listeners. Amr Abdel Baset Abdel Aziz Diab was born in the city of Port Said, and his family is from the village of Sanhout, affiliated to the Minya El-Qamh Center in the Sharkia Governorate, and his mother is from the Egyptian city of Port Said. His father, Abdel Baset Diab, worked for the Suez Canal Company as head of marine construction and shipbuilding, and he had a beautiful voice. Which made him encourage his son to sing. When Amr was six years old, he accompanied him to a festival in Port Said on July 23, 1967, and there he visited the local radio station. His first radio appearance was where he sang the Egyptian national anthem (Biladi, my country). He admired his voice, the Governor of Port Said, which made him give him a guitar. But after the outbreak of the 1967 war, the Egyptian authorities expelled the residents of the Canal governorates. Amr Diab's family was forced to return to his father's hometown in the village of Sanhout in the Minya al-Qamh district in the Sharkia Governorate, and settled there. He obtained a bachelor's degree in Arabic music from the Academy of Arts in 1983, and began his artistic career in the same year. 

Amr Diab married Sherine Reda and had a daughter, Nour. Then they separated and married another Saudi woman, "Zina Muhammad Ashour", and they had twins, Abdullah and Kenzi, and his last daughter, Jana, with whom he was born in the second half of 2002.

In 1982 he moved to Cairo and joined the Higher Institute of Arabic Music. 

In 1983, Amr recorded his first song, "Al Zaman", and he recorded his first album, Ya Tariq, in the same year. 

In 1988 was the album Mayal, which was the beginning of his cooperation with artist Hamid Al Shaeri in the arrangement of music. 

In 1989, the album Shawqna was released, and in the same year Amr Diab appeared in the movie Al-Afarit with Madiha Kamel. 

In 1990 Amr was chosen to represent Egypt in the Fifth African Nations Championship, where he sang in English and French. It was a television party that was televised by satellite in the Arab world and appeared on CNN, then the album “Matkhafeesh” was released, and the clip was seen in North America, and Amr became the first young Arab singer to be named at the Kennedy Center in Washington. This concert was shown on television in the Arab world and on CNN radio. In the same year, the album Matkhafeesh was released, and he filmed the song in Amr's house in Cairo, and his ex-wife, actress Sherine Reda, appeared in it. 

In 1991, the album Habibi was released, and the saxophone was used for the first time in his work, and it was released by the Delta Sound Company. 

In 1992, he released the album Our Days, which was distributed by Hamid Al-Shaeri. The album contained his famous song, Al-Madhi. In the same year, he performed in the movie Ice Cream in Glim, which starred alongside a number of stars, including: Simon, Ezzat Abu Auf, Hussam Hosni, Ashraf Abdel-Baqi, Jihan Fadel and Hussein Imam and Alaa Wali Al-Din, directed by Khairy Bishara. He released an album that includes the movie's songs in the same year. 

In 1993, the album "Ya Omarna" was released to prove its popularity with the masses, especially the song "You have the right". In the same year, the Egypt Film Festival opened with the movie Amr Dhakah wa Play, which starred alongside international actor Omar Sharif and actress Yousra. It was directed by director of photography, Tariq Al-Telmisani, in his first directing experience. 

In 1994, the album Willomony, in which he appears for the first time, was Amr's fusion with the Spanish guitar. 

In 1995, the album "Raj'in" was released, which was produced by Delta Voice. 

1996 was the beginning of Amr's dealings with the world of art, when the album Noor Al Ain was released, which broke records in sales in the Arab world, and thus won the Music Award for that year (which is awarded to the highest rightful sales in the region every year), and the song Nour Al Ain spread Around the world. 

In 1997, Amr released an album that includes remixes of the song Nour El-Ain in English. He was the most popular on the dance floor in Europe and Diab won three awards (Best Video Clip - Best Song - Artist of the Year) at the Arab Secondary Festival. 

In 1998 the album Awdoni Wafd was released. The album and clip succeeded greatly and Amr Diab won the Manco International Awards, the award for the world's most popular artist from the Middle East. The video clip was filmed on the banks of the Nile River. 

In 2000, the album "Tamly With You" was released, which achieved great success in Egypt and the Arab countries. In 2007, Amr Al-Layladi's album, which achieved huge sales from the first days of its release, sold two million copies in less than two weeks, and pictures of the song "We Say Eh in California" in the United States, was directed by Marwan Hamed, and actress Natalie Martinez, who appeared in the American series Fashion House, appeared with him. For this album, Amr won the World Music Award for the Arab world for the third time, making him the only Arab singer to receive this award three times. 

In 2009, Weah released his album, which has sold more than 3 million copies. Amr Diab won the Africa Music Award.

Amr Diab's first meeting with the world was during the African Games in 1991, where he was chosen to sing at the opening ceremony of the session his famous song "Africa" in Arabic, English and French. Arab channels reported this ceremony, and it was mentioned on CNN International.

He won three awards at once in the annual Arab festival, and the global coronation came at the Music Award ceremony in May 1998 in Monaco, in the presence of many world stars such as Celine Dion, Steven Seagal and the Backstreet Boys. 

"Diab" began his cooperation with international singers. He sang with the Algerian singer Cheb Khaled the song "My Heart", and he sang with the Greek singer Angela Demetriou the song "I Love You More". 

"Amr Diab" won the World Music Award seven times in 1996 for "Nour El-Ain", in 2001 for the album "Aktar One", in 2007 for the album "Al-Leila De", and in 2013 for the album "Al-Leila" (in which he won three Awards: Best Singer in Egypt, Best Male Singer in the Middle East, and Best Music Video) 

In addition, Amr presented Pepsi advertisements alongside the world's biggest stars such as "Britney Spears", "Beyoncé", "Jennifer Lopez" and "David Beckham". 

The song "Olha Betafarq" won the best foreign song in Spain in 2011.
