Ahmed Mazhar "The Knight of Egyptian Cinema and Prince of the Screen", who is considered one of the most important stars , born on October 8, 1917 in the Abbasid neighborhood of Circassian origin. His father, Mazhar Hafez al-Darmali, owned property, his two sisters were artists, Fatima Mazhar and Sana Mazhar. He lived next to a number of celebrities, including Naguib Mahfouz and Muhammad Abd al-Wahhab.
He obtained his high school diploma from Saidia School in 1934, he practiced boxing and became the champion of the school in it. He joined the College of Commerce. His ambition was not satisfied, so he moved to veterinary medicine and finally settled in the Military College in 1936. He graduated in 1938. He was pushed by Gamal Abdel Nasser, Anwar Sadat, and Tharwat Okasha. He worked as an infantry officer in the Manqabad region, participated in the Second World War and the Palestine War, and moved to the cavalry in 1940, and joined the second row of the Free Officers, and was part of the Egyptian equestrian team participating in an international competition for the Olympic Games in Helsinki, the capital of Finland, when the 1952 revolution broke out, and was appointed by Abdel Nasser Commander of the Riding School in 1956.
His work in art began in 1948 when Zaki Tulaimat presented him in the play “Al-Watan”, then director Ibrahim Ezz El-Din nominated him for the movie “The Emergence of Islam” 1951, and he obtained a permit from the army before every role. A permit to act, he submitted his resignation to the rank of colonel in 1956 after President Gamal Abdel Nasser advised him to devote himself to art, then worked as a secretary in the Supreme Council for the Protection of Arts and Letters, and devote himself completely to acting in 1958, and his credit reached more than 100 diverse films, including: The Virgin Wife, The Laughing Crime, Thieves but good people, the black glasses, the green threshold, and others, and nearly 40 TV series, including the conscience of Abla Hikmat, the judiciary in Islam, the era of the Knights, the last of which was Against the Current in 1997, and 6 for the radio, including personalities looking for an author, Nadia, days with him.
He formed with Aida Hilal a film production company in Beirut 1968, and joined the theater lights troupe 1970; To star in the play "The Apple and the Skull", and in 1971, he joined the United Artists Troupe to represent the play Something of the Femininity, and directed for the cinema two films that he wrote himself: Confused Souls 1968, and Habiba Giri 1976. He also participated in the international film "Guns and Anger" 1981 with the artist "Peter Graves". .

He received many awards, including the First Actor Award in the movie The Virgin Wife 1960, the first prize in acting for his role in the 1961 movie Doaa Al-Karwan, the first prize in acting also for the movie The Last Night 1964, the Best Actor Award 1969, and the Medal of Science and Arts from President Gamal Abdel Nasser He was granted the Free Officers’ pension, and a certificate of appreciation during the era of President Sadat in 1979, and a founding member of the Harafish Association, which includes a large number of men of literature and the press, including: Naguib Mahfouz, Ihsan Abdel Quddus, and Youssef El Sebaei. He also mastered several languages.
In 1952, he married the love of his life, Mrs. Hedayat, and had four children with her: Nevin, Iman, Reham and Shehab. His son accidentally killed one of his father's friends, which affected his relationship with his wife at the time and caused severe shock to him and he did not think of marriage after that. At the end of his life, he lived alone in his villa in the pyramid after his sons married, and he was suffering from loneliness and disease and overcame the matter by reading or equestrian, but he was affected after the death of his horse, Saif Allah.
He was appreciated by the late presidents Gamal Abdel Nasser and Anwar El-Sadat, where the first awarded him the Medal of Science and Arts of the first class in 1969 AD, and the second also honored him with another high medal in Egypt’s celebrations of Art Day, which stopped after the assassination of Sadat in October 1981 AD, and he received more than 40 local and international awards for The extent of his long artistic career, the most important of which is the First Actor Award in the movie "The Virgin Wife". He won an acting award for his role in the movie The Last Night. He was also honored at the Cairo International Film Festival.
He died on May 8, 2002, after a struggle with pneumonia in the hospital, and a popular funeral was held for him, attended by the Vice President, and he was buried in Bab al-Wazir tombs near Salah al-Din Castle.
