Muhammad Siddiq Al-Minshawi

 Muhammad Siddiq Al-Minshawi (1920-1969) is an Egyptian Quran reader who is considered one of the prominent and famous figures in this field in the Islamic world, and one of the pioneers of recitation distinguished by his recitation and recitation. Record the Quran recited with the narration of Hafs from Asim. He was a reader in the Egyptian radio.


Sheikh Muhammad was born in the city of Al-Mansha in Sohag Governorate, and he completed the memorization of the Noble Qur’an when he was eight years old. Where he grew up in an ancient Quranic family that inherited the recitation of the Quran. His father, Sheikh Siddiq Al-Minshawi, grandfather Tayeb Al-Minshawi, and his father’s grandfather were all Quran readers.

 He was influenced by his father, from whom he learned the art of reciting the Noble Qur’an, and this family became the pioneer of a beautiful, independent school in reciting the Qur’an, we can call it (the Al-Minshawiya school). His hometown established and completed the memorization and study of the Qur'an.

Sheikh Al-Minshawi has a special imprint in the recitation, characterized by a humble voice with a tinge of sadness, so Sheikh Muhammad Siddiq Al-Minshawi was nicknamed “the weeping voice.” His journey began with recitation, by roaming with his father and uncle between different evenings, until he had the opportunity to read alone on a night in 1952 in Sohag Governorate, and from here his name became hesitant around.

The Holy Qur’an was recorded in its entirety in a recitation of its recitation, as well as a Qur’anic recitation on the Egyptian radio, and it also has a joint reading of Al-Douri’s narration with the reciters Kamel Al-Bahimi and Fouad Al-Arousi. He also has many recordings in Al-Aqsa Mosque, Kuwait, Syria and Libya. The Qur'an was recited in the major mosques in the Islamic world, such as the Grand Mosque in Mecca, the Prophet's Mosque in Medina, and the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. He visited a number of Islamic countries such as Iraq, Indonesia, Syria, Kuwait, Libya, Palestine and Saudi Arabia.

His reputation became well known and well received due to the sweetness of his voice, beauty and singularity in that, in addition to his mastery of the stations of reading, and his deep emotion with the meanings and words of the Qur’an. Sheikh "Mohammed" received several decorations from different countries, such as Indonesia, Syria, Lebanon and Pakistan. He was at the head of Egypt’s readers in the fifties of the twentieth century, along with readers such as Sheikh Abdul Basit Abdul Samad and other readers, and they are still to this day at the top of the readers because they had the luster in their voice that made them achieve the first ranks among the readers, the late Sheikh imam said about him Muhammad Metwally Al-Shaarawy: «He and his four companions are recited; Others board a boat and sail in the sea of ​​the Noble Qur’an, and this boat will not stop sailing until God - Glory be to Him, the Most High - inherits the earth and those on it.”


The radio sent him a request to apply to it to be approved, but he refused and said I do not need that, and with the increase of his fame and his will among the people, The radio, with its equipment and engineers, moved to where it was recited in a Quranic evening in Upper Egypt, and recorded a recitation of it and sent it to him after that to be approved, until it was approved in 1953, and he begins the journey of recording the Noble Qur’an for the radio.

The late musician Mohamed Abdel Wahab said about him: “In my estimation, it is possible to comment on any of the readers except for Al-Minshawi, who represents an exceptional case in front of which the discerning connoisseur is puzzled. Whoever contemplates the exits of the letters with him, it is difficult to find a description of them, because God gave him a melodious throat and a melodious tone that softens hearts and skins together.

He married twice and had four sons and two daughters from his first wife, and from his second five sons and four daughters.

Rumors of trying to kill him with poison

Once again, some websites published a second rumor about an attempt to assassinate Sheikh Muhammad Siddiq Al-Minshawi by poisoning him in food. But, as usual, they are devoid of any details, names, witnesses, audio or visual recordings that prove the event around which the rumor revolves.

In 1966, he contracted esophageal varices, and despite his illness, he continued to read the Qur’an until he passed away on Friday 5 Rabi’ al-Thani 1389 AH corresponding to June 20, 1969 CE.
