Field Marshal Mohamed Abd Al-Halim Abu Ghazala


Field Marshal Mohamed Abdel-Halim Abu Ghazala (15 January 1930-6 September 2008) and Minister of Defense Prince of Egypt in the late Anwar Sadat and the beginning of the era of President Hosni Mubarak for several years until 1989, and the leaders of the October 1973 war.

Included in the leadership positions of military, and was appointed Minister of Defense and Military Production, and General Commander of the Armed Forces in 1981, and was promoted to the rank of Marshal in 1982, then became Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense and Military Production, and General Commander of the Armed Forces since 1982 and until 1989 when he was dismissed from his post and appointed then Assistant President of the Republic.
Participated in the revolution of July 23, 1952, where he was a free officer, also participated in the 1948 war which is still a student in the Military Academy, and participated in the Suez War and the Yom Kippur War and the performance was outstanding. Did not participate in the 1967 war, where he was the western region and cut off contact with the leadership and returned to the surprise defeat. Death

Abu Ghazala died on Saturday evening, Sept. 6, 2008 at El-Galla Military Hospital in Cairo at the age of 78 after a battle with throat cancer.
